With the "E" group = recall from vacation the TWISTERS managed two individual team records with Sarah Bouzarouata (16) getting close to Sectional cuts in 50 and 100 free and a s= weet brand new Metro and team record in the boys 400 meters medley relay with Al= en Dervisevic (14), Benjamin Ching (14), Mike Domagala (13) and Sean Kim (14).=

SUPER SECTIONALS IN BUFFALO

This year we had two rookies attending the North East Super Sectional long course meet in Buffalo, NY. Both Mike Domagala (13) and Benjamin Ching (14) had the first taste of this level of competition and performed very good wit= h high hopes for the years to come.

SENIOR METRO

With the senior team in rebuilding mode the TWISTERS managed many personal bests and no less than 9= team records at this year Senior Mets meet. A special note for Benjamin Ching (14) at his second Sectional cut in 200 breast a= nd a team record in 200 fly in the evening of the last day after qualifying for finals in the morning and swimming the 1500 free in the afternoon (also in personal best time).

STATE OF THE TEAM<= /span>

The TWISTERS finished the 200= 8-2009 SCY as the best season ever in the team history:

For the second consecutive ye= ar we received the US Swimming bronze medal status for Club Excellence;
In an all team effort we scored 131,684 points in Toyota Virtual Club Championship: up from 115,089 fr= om last year, which place our club in 187th place nationally (out of more than 2500= ); best standing ever.

Our swimmers lowered 6 Metro records: twice by Kayla Polanco= (8) bringing the 50 yards breaststroke record to a blistering 37.46, the 8-under girls relays of Kayla Polanco, Jasmin Bouzarouata, Katarzyna Zezula and Ali= son Jackson in 100 medley and 200 free, Michael Domagala in 50 fly and 200 IM and the 11-12 boys 200 free relay of Mike Domagala, Brandon Koo, Richard Dong and Mateusz Zezula
Our swimmers lowered an aston= ishing 118 Team records for this season;

We continue to have many swim= mers in top 10 in Metro and this year we are represented in top 10 USA by Michael Domagala and the 11-12 boys relays.<= /p>
Our swimmers had a strong pre= sence in High School swimming throughout New York City and Long Island (both public and independent leagues).

We expanded and now train par= t of the team in the new Flushing Meadow Olympic size pool.

2009 SCY JUNIOR OLYMPICS=

   The TWISTE= RS finished this year SCY Metro JO 14 and under Championship in 5th place over= all scoring 1360.5 points. By age groups the team was very constant with 5th fo= r 10 and under and 4th in both 11-12 and 13-14 age groups. Individually Brandon = Koo (12) finished 3rd for boys 11-12. We lowered six individual team records (o= ne Metro by Kayla Polanco (8) in 50 breast) a= nd seven relay records. (results)

2009 Metro 8 and under Champi= onship

Our younger swi= mmers continue in the tradition of TWISTER'S excellence with high performance and technical quality swims. At this year Metro LSC 8-under Championship coach = Verny Rodriguez and Jeffrey Chen had six swimmers placing in top 5 in their category: Kayla Polanco (8) with a clean 6 of 6 individu= al wins, walked off with the HPT for 8 year old girls; Emily Rodrigue= z (6) scoring in all her events, girls 6, Samantha Fong (7) winning 25, an= d 50 fly and 50 breast, girls 7, and Andy Lee (7) winning 25 and 50 breast and 50 and 100 free, boys 7 all runner ups; Jasmin Bouzarouata= (8) with one win in 50 fly and 4 second could be an easy second overall to her friend Kayla if not for a twitch in the 25 fly start and Luiza Silveira = (7) with an individual win in 50 back in forth. The 8 and under girls destroyed= two Metro records in the first day of the meet with 2:16.62 in 200 free and 1:0= 8.07 in 100 medley. 2009 SCY ZONE QUAL MEET<= /o:p>

    For the fi= rst time ever one of Annie Zhu's Metro records= in a breastroke event has been lowered. We are happy to notice that such a performance has been accomplished without the help of the "new" s= uit. Oh yes.. and it was d= one by Kayla Polanco (8), coached by Jeffrey Chen so the record stays in the (LGAC) house!!!.

On a good rehearsal for the s= enior Metro championship the Twisters got a taste of College swimming at the first Condors NCAA format meet. We had some very good races, among them Yuria Haruki (15) performance in 100 and 200 fly at her first (and second) sectional cut.

2009 NUFINMEN M. L. KING MEET=

        The TWISTERS started 2009 with a full force performance= at the 2009 Dr. Martin Luther King meet in Eisenhower: out of the 10 age group High Point Trophies more than 7 where awarded to our swimmers. On the girls side we had a full sweep with Kayla Polanco (8), Gaby Almeida (10), Alex Rubiano (12), Joyce Kwok (14) and Yuria Haruki (1= 5). On the boys competition Arthur Uszynski (12) won the honors for 11-12 with Mike Domagala (13) and David Torres (14) sharing t= he first place in the 13-14 category. In total our swimmer ended the first mee= t of the year with an impressive record of 47 first, 35 second and 29 third place swims in the individual events and 6 first, 7 second and 2 third place in t= he relay races. Other individual winners: Larry Barbosa (15), Tabitha Barbosa (12), Andy Lee (7), Irene Park (10), Victoria Ponzo (17), Maria Skeivys (16), and Kevin Wu (11). TYR = CUP: 26 new team records, three Metro

43 TWISTERS traveled this yea= r to Lancaster, PA for the very strong 2009 TYR cup meet. In the three days of competition we scored 1553 points enough for a very good 3rd place overall out of about 50 teams from Jersey, = Pennsylvania and Metro. Mike "PUP" Domagala (12) had a "perfect" meet winning the High Point Trophy with the maximum of 180 points. Out of his winning times = in the nine events he swam, 9 where Team records, 8 National Reportable Times,= 7 Meet records, and 2 Metro Records. Gaby Almeida (10) finished second in HPT for 10 and under girls with first in 50 free, second in 100 free, 200 free and 100 back and third in 50 back . Is that time of the year agai= n and the TWISTERS girls are making a very strong statement at this year H= igh School Championships, with all five "E" group swimmers earning a = ticket to the 2008 State Championship in Buffalo, NY. At the Nassau County Championship Angela Sun (fro. at Great Neck South HS) won the 100 fly with a personal best of 58.06 and finished runner up in 100 back and will compete in both events next week. Victoria Ponzo (sr. at Mary Louis Academy HS) follow suit with her first individual cut ever for States in 500 free at her CHSAA conference. One week later Sarah Bouzarouata (so. = at Brooklyn Tech HS) won the 100 free at PSAL in a personal best of 55.03 and = will be joined by Joyce Kwok (fro. at Francis Louis HS) winner in 100 back with a new league record and personal best of 59.20. She will race Angela in 100 fly for which she also made the States cut. The group is complete with = Karina Hain (so. at Townsend Harris HS) who finished runner up in 200 IM and w= as part of the record breaking 200 medley relay swimming the backstroke leg. T= he "A" group had also some fine races with Marta Sowinski (sr. Stuyvesant HS) winning the 50 free at PSAL, Laura Salgado (sr. at To= wnsend Harris HS) 11th in 500 free and 16th in 200 free; Carolina Laskowski (fro. at Brooklyn Tech HS) 100 back 7th, 200 IM, 14th; Maggie Yeung (fro. at Stuyvesant HS) 6th in 50 free and Kamara Lewis (jr. at Fran= cis Louis HS) 8th in 50 free.

OCTOBERFEST=

The 2008 Oktoberfest meet in Hofstra was a good measure where the team stands in mid season as the TWIST= ERS took down no less than 15 new team records by 10 different swimmers, at lea= st one for each age group from 8 and under to 15-18. We finished the meet with= an impressive 41-27-27 record for first, seco= nd and third place. Again we had two swimmers with clean sweep: Kevin Wu (1= 0) winner in all his 8 events and Mike= Domagala (12) winning all six events he raced.     The Twi= sters started the season in force at the 2008 Agua Season Sta= rter meet with 38 first, 32 second and 25 third place swims. Leading the way wit= h a clean sweep of 8 wins in 8 races was Mike Domagala (12) and Kevin Wu (10). Alexandra Rubiano (12) won 6 races with 2 second in 100 breast and 50 free to her friend Tabitha Barbosa (12) who also won the 50 breast a= nd 200 free in addition to 4 second. Jasmine Bouzarouata (8) had 4 wins with 3 second and one third. Also multiple winners: Kayla Polanco (7) with 3 first, 2 second and one third and Gaby Almeida (10) with a 2 first, 3 second and 3 third. Other winners: Richard Dong (12) in 100 breast, Brandon Koo (12) in 50 breast, Irene Park (9) in 100 = fly and Phoon Sangtippawan (16) in 200 breast.
