THE TWISTERS WRAP-UP THE LONG= COURSE SEASON WITH FAST SWIMS

    The TWI= STERS wrapped up a very successful summer season with Larry Barbosa (14), = Benjamin Ching (12), Alen Dervisevic (12), Chris Doherty (14), = Mike Domagala (11), Yuria Haruki (13), Kevin Lin (12), Ange= la Sun (12), Arthur Uszynski (10) and Thomas Wadolowski (13) representing METRO LSC at the Eastern Zo= ne Championship in Buffalo. Across the country, Annie Zhu (12) raced in her first Junior National Championship = in Indianapolis. = ;   Swimming in the famous INDY Natatorium (also called the House of Champions) Annie had the chance to measure up with the best 18 and under swimmers in t= he country. She made finals for three of her four events: 100 and 200 breast a= nd 200 IM getting better with every event. Her best performance came on the la= st session when she lowers her team and Metro record in 200 IM. Back in Buffalo the Twisters had some very good swims and personal best times: Ben scored twice in 50 and 200 br= east; Alen in 200 and 400 free; Chris in 100 free; Mike in 100 free and 50 fly; Yuria in all her events, missing the 100 fly final by 0.01 sec; Kevin in all his events with solid times in 100 free and 100 fly; Arthur in 100 free and 200 IM, and Tommy in = 50 free.

TWISTERS WIN THE OVERALL 14 A= ND UNDER 2007 METRO JUNIOR OLYMPICS CHAMPIONSHIP

   Now is off= icial: the TWISTERS won the overall 14 and under 2007 Long Course Metro Jun= ior Championship with 2133.5 points, and establish themselves as the best junior squad in Metro. And to top it all we had 6 brand new Metro record swims by = Annie Zhu in 100 breast, the 11-12 girls 200 and 400 medley relay, = 11-12 boys 400 free relay and 13-14 boys 200 free and 200 medley relay (blasting more than 1.5 seconds of a 31 years old record).

By age group the 10 and under finished 9th, 11-12 first and 13-14 second. In all the TWISTERS had 8 relays, (4 by 11-12 boys, 2 by 11-12 girls and 2 by 13-14 boys) and 9 individual swims, (8 by Annie and by Benjamin Ching at his fi= rst in 100 breast) in National Reportable Time (Top 16), and 9 individual a= nd 10 new team records.

Individua= lly in High Point Trophy, Annie (12) finished 1st for 11-12 girls, Phoon Sangtippawan (14) 2nd for 13-14 boys and Yuria "Turtle" Ha= ruki (13) 3rd in 13-14 girls.

The TWISTERS won 12 individual and 8 relays events, finished second in 10 individual and 3 rela= ys events and third in 13 individual events.

Anni= e Zhu makes her first Olympic Trial Cut    So it happ= ened, down in St. Mary's City Maryland, after swimming best times meet after meet= , Annie made team history at the 2008 LC Super Sectional winning the 200 breast= in 2:34.28, new National Age Group Record (which she lowered three times this season, from 2:37.90) and Olympic Trial Qualifying performance. She actually had a very good meet swimming finals in five out of her six events (she scratched the 100 back final). She finished second in 100 breast, third in 200 IM, fifth in 400 IM and 12th in 50 free; not to bad for a 12 year old swimming Open.

Anni= e Zhu lowers her NAG record in 200 meters breast

&nbs= p;   Swimming at the 2007 Seni= or Metropolitan Long Course Championship (July 5 - 8), Annie (12) won t= he 200 meters breastroke event with a personal best time of 2:36.37. What that means is that she also lowered her National Age Group record by 1.33 seconds. And for good measure she also won the 100 breast (in Metro record)= and the 400 IM, swam for second in 200 IM, forth in 100 free (Team Record) and seven in 100 back finishing the meet first (tie) for the girls High point trophy. Her 200 and 100 breaststroke times are now just 0.38 and 0.70 seconds from the Olympic Trial Cut. The rest of the young TWISTERS squad put up some very good swims in this Open Championship: Phoon Sangtippawan (14) had his fir= st ever Sectional cut with a fast 1:12.23 in 100 breast, Yuria Haruki (= 13) dipped under 1:10 in 100 fly and continue to improve in 100 free with a bra= nd new Zone cut, Angela Sun (12), Chris Doherty (14) and Larry Barbosa (14) swam for one team record apiece and the 13-14 boys set a t= eam standard for the 800 free relays (Chris, Phoon, Larry and Nader Yamout (13)). Rookies Neo Martinez and Coach Jeff both swam personal best in 100 breast and 100 fly respectively and Mariel Vanderlinde= n (14) and Gabriel Yanez (16) helped to score in relays. =

TWISTERS ON FIRE AT THE 4TH REDTAILS INTERNATIONAL

    After 3 we= eks of back to back meets, the TWISTERS rallied for the 4th Annual Redtails International Meet with another team victory placing first in team standings for the third consecutive year. Individually Gaby Almeida (9) finish= ed third, Arthur Uszynski (10) placed first with six wins, one second a= nd one third; In 11-12 girls category we had Annie Zhu (12) in first wi= th eight wins and Angela Sun(12) in second with 2 wins 4 second and 2 third; for 11-12 boys we had a TWISTER" SWEEP with Mike Doma= gala (11) six wins, one second and one third, Benjamin Ching (12) for wins, one second and one third, and Kevin Lin (12) at his first ever Zone cut in 100 free with four second and 2 third place finishes, the second sweep come in 13-14 girls category with Sarah Bouzarouata (13), seven wins and one second, Yuria Haruki (13), two wins, four second and two third place swims and Mariel Vanderlinden (14) with three second pla= ce, for boys 13-14 Phoon Sangtippawan (14) won seven events and finished third in 200 fly, enough for the first place in HPT and Larry Barbosa (14) tied for second with one victory in 200 fly and three more third place finishes. In all the TWISTERS won 46 individual and 10 relays, finis= hed runner up in 35 individual and 7 relays and swam for third in 35 individual= and 2 relays.

THE TWISTERS FINISH THE ESG T= RIALS WITH 14 TEAM AND 3 METRO RECORDS

Swimming only 4 events apiece= , the TWISTERS continue to rewrite the team record book at the 2007 LCM Empire State Games Trial. In this year competition nine TWISTERS lowered 14 team record= s, three of them Metro by Annie Zhu. We had 11 swimmers in first or sec= ond place: Larry Barbosa (14), Sarah Bouzarouata (13), Chris Doherty = (14), George Martinez (13), Keanu Martinez (14), Phoon Sangtippa= wan (14), Angela Sun (12), David Torres (13), Nader Yamout (13) = Gabriel Yanez (16) and Annie Zhu (12) making them eligible to swim in the Games but because of the schedule conflict with the Summer Junior Olympics = only Gabriel will make the trip.     This past weekend, the twisters split in two pools for the summer sizzler meet with very good results breaking no less than 16 new team and o= ne Metro records. This is a good sign for the seaso= n with the whole team in the middle of heavy training. The twister's meet ended with 17 first, 14 second and 17 third.     Swimming a= t 2007 Spring Kickoff In the first meet of the Long Course season, Annie Zhu (12) adds to her collection the National Age Group Record in 200 Meters Breaststroke. Showing her great skill and determination Annie touche= d in 2:37.70, 0.2 seconds under the previous national mark by Alisa Finn from 20= 04. She has now under her name the Age Group National Records for 100 yards and meters breaststroke for 10 and under category, and the 100 and 200 yards and 200 meters in the 11-12 category. TWISTERS FINISH 4TH IN OVERAL= L TEAM STANDINGS AT THE 2007 METROPOLITAN SHORT COURSE JO CHAMPIONSHIP<= /span>

    For the fi= rst time in many years the 2007 Metro JO Short Course Championship has been sco= red as an overall age group meet with no less than 45 teams competing. The T= WISTERS showed again their strength, finishing 4th overall with 1764.5 points, a great performance as we had to swim against much larger teams. The 11-12 TWISTERS age group proved to be the strongest in Metro winning the combine (boys= and girls) competition with 1133.5 points. The 13-14 group finished 4th with 481 points; 10 and under scored 98 points with only 5 boys, and 15-18, 52 points with boys only. The boys finished 3rd overall and the girls (only 11= -12 and 13-14 competing) in seventh. The TWISTERS broke 21 individual an= d 10 relay team records, five of them Metro records as well by Annie Zhu = (12) in 50 back, 50 breast and 100 IM; Nader Yamout (12) in 400 IM, and a great performance by the boys 11-12 400 Medley Relay with Dervisevi= c A. (12), Torres D. (12), Yamout N. (12), Domagala M. (11) winning the race= by almost 8 seconds. Individually Annie continues her unbroken streak s= ince she was 5 years old winning the High Point Trophy with a perfect 180 points score. Her 50 yards breaststroke performance just 0.3 second shy of national record and her 100 IM at 0.26 off national record as well were the second performances ever in USA for her age group in those events. On the boys side David Torres (12= ) finished second overall with 160 points, winning the 50, 100&nbs= p; and 200 breast and the 200 back. His 200 breast and 200 IM swims qualifies = ;him as the fifth TWISTER this season with National Reportable Times. ANNIE ZHU LOWERS HER NATIONAL RECORD IN 200 YARDS BREAST 11-12 GIRLS TO 2:16.16

    Swimming a= t the 2007 SC Speedo Sectionals NE, Annie lowered her 11-12 Age Group 2= 00 yards breastroke National record with a 2:16.16 performance in the meet finals.     The Twi= sters had some very fast swims at the 2007 Flushing pentathlon meet, capturing four (that is half of all) High Point Trophy awa= rded for the meet. We had two swimmers in runner up position and three more in t= hird place. In all the Twisters won 18 individual and 3 relay races, finished second in 13 individual and 3 relays and third in 17 indivi= dual and 1 relay.

    After three weeks of heavy training the Twisters had a very good start of the 20= 07 year in the M. L. King Meet in Asphalt Green pool, with 53 wins, 39 second = and 35 third place races. The team recorded no less than six individual and one relay NRT by Alexandra Rubiano (10) with personal best times in 100 = IM 1:08.00, 50 back 30.71 and 100 back; she won all her other events for a per= fect 8 for 8 and was part of both 10 and under girls winning relays. For 11-12 g= irls Annie Zhu (12) won 7 out of 7, recording NRT in 50 breast and, with a new Metro Record, in 400 IM, 4:34.68 also leading the girls 11-12 winning relays. The third Twister swimming at National level was Nader Yamout (12) with a promising 4:40.24 in 400 IM, winning 6 more events, with a sing= le loss, second in 100 back.     Last minute shopping and fast swims do not usually mix well but the Twisters manage bot= h in the Marist Holiday meet: without the complete team and with our 12 and under swimming in Open category on Saturday: Twisters won 20 individual and 4 relay events, with 18 individual and 2 relays on second and 20 individual a= nd one relay in third. The 10 and under girls relays, with Biggi's = help swam to a NRT in 200 medley with a 2:12.26 performance and a team record in= 200 free with a very fast 1:57.13, just 0.14 seconds from the National standard= . TWISTERS FINISHED 2ND AT THE = 2006 BIG APPLE CLASSIC (11/21/2006)

    After 3 da= ys of very good swims, the Twisters finished 2nd in the team standings at = the 2006 Big Apple Classic meet, winning 41 events, swimming for second in 33 a= nd finishing third in 23. We had one Metro record performance by Annie Zhu<= /b> (12) in 200 IM, 2:08.14 (NRT), with her sites on the not so far National Record, three NRT swims by Mike Domagala (10) in 100 free, 100 back (1:07.23) and 100 IM, and a very fast 100 back (1:06.45) NRT by Alexandra Rubiano (10). Individually, Mike D. finished first overall in 10= and under boys winning all his 6 events; Annie first for 11-12 girls also with 6 wins; Sarah Bouzarouata (13) first in 13-14 girls winning 400= IM, 100 and 200 back and 200 fly; Phoon Sangtippawan (14) first in 13-14 boys winning 7 events and coming second in 500 free; Alex second in = 10-under girls winning the 100 IM, 100 back and 100 breast coming second in 100 and = 200 free and third in 100 fly; Nader Yamout (12) second in 11-12 = boys winning the 100 back and second in five events; Chris Doherty (13) second in 13-14 boys swimming a very good meet, winning 100 and 200 back, second in 100 fly, 200 and 400 IM, third in 1650 free. ANNIE ZHU BREAKS THE 100 AND = 200 YARDS BREASTSTROKE NATIONAL RECORDS FOR GIRLS 11-12 (11/14/06)

    Is not your usual meet when you rub elbows in the warm-up pool with a World Champion a = Pan Pacific swimmer and several National Team members, at least not in New York. But this is what happened Saturday and Sunday in Asp= halt Green pool, in a very fast New= York City open meet. Swimmers, parents and coaches had = the opportunity to see Kate Ziegler, Elizabeth Beisel, Alex Forester, Laura Sogar and... Annie Zhu. Inspired by the b= ig names Annie had some very good morning swims, qualifying for the ult= ra final (the two fastest prelim swimmers) in both 100 (1:13.43 team and metro record, with the 50 split in 34.08 metro record = as well) and 200 meter breaststroke events. In both evening finals she swam against 2007 USA National Junior Team member Laura Sogar. Without being deterred, she raced head to head to the wall lowering both 11-12 girls Nati= onal records: 100 in 1:03.54, shaving 2 hundreds of the 1995 record by Jody Hill= ock and 200 in 2:16.47, 0.7 seconds under the 2004 National record by Alisa Fin= n. Her performance in both events are also her first qualifying times for the USA National Championship.   =

    And that i= s not all, we had 11 individual and 3 relay team records as well by 13 swimmers i= n all, 20 individual and 5 relay in first place, 18 individual and 2 relays in sec= ond and 15 individual and 2 relays in third.

    The top 16 reportable where courtesy of Mike Domagala (10) who is improving rap= idly in 50 free 26.57 also a team record, 50 back 30.86 and 50 fly 29.56, he also won the 50 breast in 38.68; Annie Zhu (12) in 50 free 24.79, 50 back 27.78 new Metro Record, and 50 breast 29.81 Metro Record, second fastest 11= -12 girls performance ever in US, she won the 50 fly in team record time of 27.= 54; Alexandra Rubiano (10), at her first NAG reportable with a fast 31.26 for 50 back also winning the 50 breast and coming second in 50 fly; and the 11-12 girls Medley relay of Cagla Fidan (11), Annie, Angela Sun (12), and= Maggie Yeung (12) in 1:57.32, coming very close to the current Metro record. <= o:p>

STRONG START OF SEASON AT THE= FLUSHING DISTANCE MEET (<= /span>10/19/2006)

    Usually the first meet of the winter season is one of the hardest as the first race can= make or break your confidence for the following months. More so if the first meet has only distance events. The good part is that after such a hard meet, (50= 0, 1650 free and 400 IM) everything shorter looks a lot easier. Judging by the= Twisters swims last weekend we had it both ways with very good times, many 10 to 50 seconds best which definitely are confidence boosters for the whole season, after which the shorter races will feel like a breeze... Just consider that= as many as 18 swimmers from Abrams to Zhu, had splits (100 fly in 400 IM, 100 and 200 free in 500 free and 200, 500 and 1000 in 1650) faster = than their best times for the event.

    The Twiste= rs, counting our unattached swimmers, won 7 out of 10 events as proof of the quality of our program. Angela Sun (12) got the TWISTERS ball rolling winning the 400 IM, 11-12 girls with a 5:14.82 performance, more than 15 seconds drop in PB time; Sarah Bouzarouata (13) won the same e= vent for girls 13-14, with a PB of 4:58.14; Nader Yamout (12) won the 11-= 12 boys with a 4:50.42. a 4A performance and Mike Abr= ams (13) raced for first with a 4:41.61 swim in the boys 13-14 event closing with a = fast 1:01 free split. Mike Domagala (10) unattached, added endurance to h= is sprinting qualities, winning the 10-under boys category, with a promising 6:08.81 in his first 500 try; Annie Zhu (12) swam for a 8 seconds dr= op in 500 free winning with a very good start of season 4A time of 5:20.94; an= d Ronald Georgescu (12) unattached, proved that he can race, leading a Twisters = sweep in the 11-12 boys 500 free with a PB of 5:40.65, now remains to prove that = he can train.
