YOUNGEST TWISTERS HAVE THEIR SAY (
2006, 8 and
under Metropolitan Championship had our youngest Twisters among the star
swimmers with Cathy Tan (7) winning all her 6 events and her big and
heavy HPT with a clean 120 points. Her performance was mirrored by Joseph Mo
(7) on the boys competition with the exact same
outcome 6 x 6 for 120 points. Cathy led our strongest group and helped
for 3 second and 1 third place finish in the 7-under relays along with Gabriela
Almeida (7), Tina Rodriguez (7), Sunnie Wang (6), Ema
Furusho (7) and Julia Hou (7). Gabby had a very good meet of
her own winning the 25 breast and 50 fly, and swimming for second in 25 back
and 100 IM; Sunnie won the 25 breast and got a pair of third place
finishes in 25 and 50 back for the 6 and under; Making her dad proud, Tina raced
for an individual third in 100 free. Congratulation for Coach Verny and
his strong group of swimmers completed by the rest of the rookies pack: Jasmin
Bouzarouata (5) scoring in 50 back and 25 breast; Ece Buyukerkan (6)
scoring in 25 back, 50 free and 50 breast; Jasmine Elmassry (7); Kayla

SIX TWISTERS QUALIFY TO REPRESENT
METRO AT THIS YEAR ZONE CHAMPIONSHIP (
After three long
days of intense and fierce races, six TWISTERS qualified to represent
Metropolitan LSC at the 2006 SCY Eastern Zone Championship. The Twister's squad
gearing up to race the best Age Group swimmers in North East is lead by Annie
Zhu (11) who qualified in 50, 100, and 200 breaststroke, 100 and 200 IM and
100 back; she also finished first in 50 back and second in 100 free but she can
swim maximum 6 events at the Zones. Also with 6 events Cagla Fidan (10)
will have a full schedule swimming 50 fly, 50 and 100 back, 50 breast, 50 free and 100 IM. She qualified in 100 breast but in fairplay dropped her
place for Janae Barrett (10) who came in a close third and made the team
in that event. With first place finishes in his specialty Daniel Mo (10)
will swim 50 and 100 back. Sarah Bouzarouata (12) swam for a second
place in 100 back and she will race Annie once (twice?) more at the Zones; and
last but not least, in the last event of the meet, after a 100 fly race more
dramatic than an American Idol final, Sammy Mo (11) made the team as he
stretched for a second place touch, 2 hundreds of a second ahead of a closing
pack of hungry swimmers. Congratulation to all. Adding to the excitement, we
had way to many 3rd place finishes by Janae in 50 breast, Sarah
in 200 back, Daniel in 200 IM, Sam in 200 back, Phoon
Sangtippawan (13) in 100 breast, Nader Yamout (11) in 200 fly and

FAST SWIMS AT 2006 SCY AGE GROUP CHAMPIONSHIP
(
The Age
Group Championship was the last team competition of the yards season. It is
supposed to be a "slow" meet, with entries slower than JO qualifying
times. Well not so for most of the Twisters who saved many great swims for this
last meet of the season. Tapered and without the pressure of JO, Zone Qual or
Senior Metro's meets the Twisters had many great swims, good for 2 new Team
Records, 14 Zone and 38 JO qualifying times. We also had many breakout swims
from up and coming young swimmers, many at their first
meet. Breakout swims: Mike Abrams (13) 400 IM (Z), 100
(JO) and 500 free (JO) ; Larry Barbosa (13) 400 IM (JO), 500 free; Tabitha
Barbosa (10) 200 free (JO) and 200 IM (Z) ; Marta Checko (13) 100

coming from behind and placing the team in third place with a fast 1:01.00

the meet with a personal best of 32.30 in 50 back, good for 7th place overall.
In the evening session, Annie finished third in 50 breast,(30.84) and improved her 200 IM time to a fast 2:10.55

and ranks her in first place as the overall best 11 year old girls this season
in
Friday morning, Annie
started the day qualifying first in her baby event 100 breast and second in
100 IM. After the first day sizing up the competition and getting confident Cagla

blistering 24.68 split.
The last day of
competition was as exciting with Annie qualifying first for 200 breast

cheering and anticipation proved to be very tiring for Sam as he manages
only a 1:06.37 in 100 fly more than 3 seconds shy of his best. Cagla
finished the meet with a 1:08.50 performance in 100 back, a 2 seconds drop in
PB time, placing 2nd, and a strong 28.62 in 50 free. Daniel finished 4th
