There he faced a very tough competition racing the best 10-under boys from 13 Northeast states. He swam some outstanding races winning 100 breast (1:18.03, new team record, only 4 hundreds from USA Top 16 reportable time), coming 5th in 50 breast (36.48) and racing to 8th place in 500 free (6:02.77, also new team record). With his win in 100 breast, "Mr. Phoon" made (team) history as he is the first Twister to win a race at the Zones.

·        OUTSTANDING SWIMS AT THE 2003 METRO JUNIOR OLYMPICS SUMMER CHAMPIONSHIP (07/29/2003)

The 2003 summer JO has been by far the best meet in the Twisters history. It is the only meet to date on which the swimmers results exceeded the coaches’ expectation, and that in itself is a great performance (!!!). There where great individual races, relay wins, group accomplishments and in the end an outstanding team effort, with every swimmer doing their best:

The 10 and under boys, led by Mr. Phoon, (high point trophy, 6 individual wins, 2 USA Top16 reportable times, nine individual team records), won the age group 10-u Trophy. They clean-sweep all three relays in team record times, also breaking a 9 year old Metro record for the 200 MR (T16 time). Swimming relays: Chudchane "Phoon" Sangtippawan, Chris Polanco, Chris Doherty and Kryspin Gumiela. Also scoring: Michael May, Keannu "Nemo" Martinez.

Our 10 and under girls squad, Annie Zhu (one Metro Record, eight team records, seven Zone Qual times among them 100 meters breast 1:32.01, AAAA time, 4th overall) and Sarah Bouzarouata (six Team records), team up for relays with Kelly Guaman and Cagla Fidan coming in fifth place 10-u girls, and scoring enough points for a 10-u overall Twisters victory.

The 11-12 boys scored 392 points good for the 4th place. The relays: Jose Polanco (8th place individual), Gabriel Yanez (team record in 200 back), Anthony Preda (2 team records) and Ayman Ghanim swam to three team records, winning the 400 MR. Also scoring: Omar Khedr.

Also scoring, the 13-14 boys relays of Justin Chan, Mahmoud Ghanim, Jaszewski Jacub and Greg Diaz, and, with individual swims for 15 - 18 category Ildan Sabanovic and David Brulhardt.

TWISTERS ROCK AT THE 2003 EASTERN LCM ZONE CHAMPIONSHIP (08/13/2003)

Racing against the best swimmers from 13 States, the Twisters who qualified to represent Metro LSC at the 2003 Eastern LCM Zone Championship in Pittsburgh put up a great show. Actually all our swimmers had at least a personal best time, which is even more valuable as 7 of 10 Twisters where Zone rookies. Which in turn proved that every one of them can perform great under pressure.

Leading the Twisters pack, was Mallory Cruise (16) with a 2nd place in 100 back 1:09.39, which she lowered next day in the medley relay to 1:08.75 (new team record and Sectional cut). In her last meet as a 8 and under, Annie Zhu (8) swam 6 great races coming home with one individual 3rd place (100 breaststroke, 1:27.84, Top 16, team record), one 6th in 200 IM (2:53.82, team record) and one 8th in 50 breast (41.64, Metro and team record). Her other swims: 50 free (32.75, Metro and team record), 100 free (1:13.92. Metro and team record), 50 back (39 05, team record). She also team up with Metro's Sara Giberson (BASC), Alisa Brennan (TVSC) and Ali Polhil (BGNW) for two first place relays 200 and 400 free, and a second in 400 medley. Annie ends her 8-under career with 8 Metropolitan records which she lowered 17 times!!!

Our third Twister girl swimming in Pittsburgh, Sarah Bouzarouata (10), raced in two of her specialty events 50 back (38.86) and 100 back (1:21.95), both new team records, proving herself as one of the best 10-under backstroker in Metro.

On the boys side a nice surprise performance by Kryspin Gumiela (10), swimming to a 4th place in 50 breast (41.42 personal best by 2.5 seconds); also a great 50 fly (34.94, team record) and 100 fly (1:21.37, a personal best by almost 8 seconds). New team records also in 11-12 category by Anthony Preda (12), 50 breast (38.98), and 100 breast (1:23.78), and Gabriel Yanez (12), 200 back (2:45.95). Swimming to personal best times: Christopher Doherty (10) 50 back (39.04), and 100 back (1:25.33), Phoon Sangtippawan (11) 100 breast 1:26.59, and Mauro Pazmino (13) 50 free (28.07). Swimming his best 50 breast split (39.62) in 200 Medley Relay, Omar Khedr (12).
